The exhibition "Geometric Abstraction" by Emilio Cavallini opens in Milan on Thursday 17 January at 6:30 pm at the non-profit exhibition space HUB/ART.The exhibition collects more than thirty works that reveal the artistic universe of the famous creator of women's stockings, began in the 1970s and survived to these days.

Emilio Cavallini is a textile entrepreneur and founder of the Stilnovo di San Miniato, a company that produces fancy socks exported all over the world.

At the same time Cavallini has always cultivated a passion for art: from his constant artistic research and the reuse of nylon thread, printed fabrics and bobbins for yarns come works of art contaminated by fashion.

Since 2010 Cavallini has decided to devote his time totally to art.

In February 2011 the Triennale di Milano dedicated an extensive retrospective to him and his works were finally shown to the public. On that occasion, a monographic volume entitled “The magnificent obsession” was published by Skira and edited by Benedetta Barzini, tracing the anomalous path taken by the entrepreneur-artist with absolute naturalness.

It turns out that Cavallini’s work can be considered to all intents and purposes avant-garde and inserted, albeit in a context of autonomous development, in the artistic research of the second half of the ‘900, in the optical-kinetic, analytical and generative direction.

Geometric Abstraction is also a celebration of colour, a vital element in Cavallini’s work. To give depth, the artist does not use just one colour, but two, three, sometimes even four. Behind this is his entire history, the work of forty years.

Also on display at the bistro of Interface HUB/ART are 6 stalactites made of nylon thread, 4 metres high, which will help to create a dialogue with the public in a mysterious atmosphere.

A catalogue with a critical text by Laura Cherubini has been created for the exhibition.
